Blackburn's French Connection While Premiership title favourites Arsenal and Man. United have had every slight move they make in the transfer market reported under massive headlines, Blackburn Rovers have quietly been assembling a squad which could mount a serious challenge a squad which could mount a serious challenge for the championship. Rovers manager Roy Hodgson wasted no time in snapping up Southampton striker Kevin Davies for 7.5 million and followed up with the capture of winger Jimmy Corbett from Gillingham, former Newcastle defender Darren Peacock and frenchman Sebastien Perez as many of his rivals sat watching the World Cup Finals. The new arrivals could spur Rovers into championship contention - after all, Hodgson's team did lead the league on occasions last season - and Perez is delighted to have joined the Ewood Park outfit. "I finished sixth in the French championship with Bastia and at the end of it I met Roy Hodgson and I knew some other clubs were interested in me," he said. "I gave my word to Hodgson that if I left France I would play at Blackburn. Patrick Valery is a good friend of mine and he told me it's a good club and the atmosphere is great. People are right behind the club so I had no problem to sign for Blackburn. I am glad to be here and I hope it will allow me to play for France." The defender, who ironically laced Valery in the Rovers squad, can't wait to get a taste of English football. "The atmosphere is better in England than it is in France," he said. "In big games we got big crowds but often it was not like that. Here the stadium is magnificent and the crowd are very passionate."
